All That Jazz

These days equals Jazz festival for me. I think it's absolutely wonderful that the summer nights are filled with jazzmusic - lots of it and some for free.
Friday I went to Nørrebro Bryghus with a friend to hear Martin Fabricius Trio feat. Mathias Heise. Actually I expected some 'easy listening', not that interesting, music, but it was actually very interesting and sometimes also very beautiful. It had a clear nordic sound. Certainly it was a rare pleasure for my ears to hear vibraphone and mouth organ.

Because of my work at The Royal Theater I usually have the chance to hear some of the more popular artists of the Jazz festival. This year I so far have had the chance to hear Chris Cornell, a really talented singer-songwriter, who played for two and a half hours without interval! And then there was last night  which i am still a little euphoric from - with The Brad Mehldau TrioI have not heard the trio before, and had no expectations for last night. I've read that Mehldau as an artist is a quite innovative piano player, setting new expressionistic standards. Last night I was sitting at the top of The Royal Theaters Old Stage, just under the ceiling and almost alone, and the concert was the best for me in long time. And why? It's kind of hard for me to describe, because I have no musical education. What I experienced though, was and overall feeling of love and healing energy. The three musicians: Brad Mehldau (piano), Larry Grenadier (Bass) and Jeff Ballard (drums) was really in tune and created an intense experience without excluding the audience. It all felt light and fluid, like a flow was created between musicians, the audience and the place. The music was at the same time calm and energetic, improvised and neat, relaxed and high-toned. It was just beautiful, powerful and went straight into my heart. The Trio can include me as a fan.
